The Under 15 Girls Novice competition was first and Phoebe Wallman was the only Teddington jumper.  She performed both her set and voluntary routines with control and any nerves that she had were well hidden.  It was a great experience for Phoebe and she finished in 11^th place against some very tough competitors. 

Next to jump were the Under 13 Boys Novice team.  After finishing second at the London Schools competition in December, the boys had been practising hard to get to grips with the set routine and ensure they are confident with their voluntary ones.  All the boys used their warms up and ironed out any niggles in their routines.  At the London round, none of the boys completed their set routines correctly.  All the training and practising that the boys put in clearly paid off as all the boys completed their set routines correctly.  It was a really good start for Teddington.  Some of the other teams in their category were very experienced competitors, but the boys were not daunted by this.  They prepared for their set routines with confidence and all performed really well.  Overall the boys finished in 4^th place which is an exceptional achievement for them.

The afternoon session saw the Under 13 Girls Elite competition.  With both a team and an individual competitor, it was to be an exciting afternoon.  Rebekah Lumb was our individual qualifier and she looked confident in her warm ups.  Her team mates, Jemima Witt and May Curtiss, also looked composed during their warm ups and they used the warm ups to iron out any problems with the routines.  After the set routines were performed the girls had no idea how they were doing against the other competitors.  The girls gave all they had when performing their voluntary routines  and achieved some excellent results.  Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for qualification for the National competition, but they performed with maturity     

All the students jumped exceptionally well in a very tough competition.  Although no one qualified through to the National competition the results were fantastic:

Former student, Jamie Sendles White, has just signed a professional contract with Queens Park Rangers football club.  Next Thursday he will be playing for the QPR U18/Youth team against Everton in the FA Youth Cup. In fact he is captain!

The Year 9 Football team won the Borough Tournament after beating Orleans Park School in a thrilling Golden Goal extra-time. Teddington breezed into the final with goals by Calum Jackson and some great link up play by Tom Ashley. Everyone of the boys played really well.  Well Done

The pool matches were played, and Teddington won each match comfortably.  Although some play was scrappy the girls knew that with focus they could stand a serious chance of winning.  Hampton Academy were to be the opposition in the semi finals.  The Teddington girls put the nerves to one side and played some stunning netball.  Izzy Harrop and Lara Johnon were solid in defence with some excellent interceptions.  At the other end of the court, Allec Foley and Olivia Leach were on target with their shots from across the shooting circle.  Teddington won 8-0.  We were through to the final!

In the final, Orleans Park A were the opposition.  Having already beaten them in the rounds, confidence was high.  As the game started, mistakes were made by both teams.  With missed passes and poor catches both teams were struggling to get into the flow of the game.  Despite this, both teams were scoring goals.  At the end of full time the score was 4 all.  Extra time started, and both teams found their rhythm and produced some excellent netball.  It was one goal by Orleans, then one by Teddington and this pattern continued.  At the end of extra time it was 6-6.  The last period of extra time started – if it was still all level at the end of this it would be a draw and both teams were share the title.  These last few minutes were tough for Teddington, they began to make small mistakes which gave Orleans the chance to score three time.  With time running out, Teddington scored and were on the start of a come back.  Then the final whistle went.  The result finished 10-8 to Orleans Park A team.  It was really nail biting stuff!  The girls played fantastically well, with some excellent guts and determination bringing out their netball skills.  Well done to all the girls.

The Under 13 Boys Novice team (Evan James, Daniel Robertshaw, Oscar Rudkin, Sam Woods) were all new to competitive trampolining.  After a shaky start in their set routines, all the boys performed well in their voluntary routine and achieved second place.  This was enough for the boys to qualify to the next round of the competition in January.  A fantastic achievement.  Oscar narrowly missed out on an individual qualifying spot, finishing in fourth place.

In the Under 15 Girls Novice competition, the girls just wanted to do better than last year where the highest finishing position was 17^th.  The girls (Maddie Edwards, Immy King, Phoebe Wallman,) performed with maturity and experience and after the first round were in 3^rd place in the team competition and both Phoebe and Maddie were in the top ten for individual performances.  For the voluntary routine, the girls put their nerves to one side and performed clean routines.  Phoebe finished in 3^rd place in the individual competition which takes her through to the next round for the first time.  As a team they narrowly missed out on qualification by 2.2 points, but were ecstatic to finish in 3^rd place overall.

Although Georgia Wood (Year 11) did not qualify for the next round of competitions, she performed exceptionally well in the Under 19 Girls Elite competition.  Having not been on a trampoline recently and only just moving up into this age group, Georgia completed two clean routines and scored well.  She faced tough opposition against some older competitors and some current British Champions, but can take a lot away from the experience.

It was a truly fantastic day and all the students did Teddington School very proud!

Defending champions Richmond started the new Balfour Beatty London Youth Games season as they mean to go on by retaining their cross country title at Parliament Hill Fields on Saturday.   Nearly 1,000 youngsters competed in glorious conditions on the iconic cross country venue, all watched by Team GB Olympic marathon contender Scott Overall, who also competed for the defending Jubilee Trophy winners in his younger years.
On a highly-competitive opening to the new season, there were five boroughs who topped the team standings in at least one of the six age group races.   Overall winners Richmond won the under 17 male and female races, Lambeth triumphed in the under 15 males class, Enfield finished top in the under 15 females class, Wandsworth won the under 13 females race and Barnet won the under 13 males event.  When the final team totals were added up, Richmond’s gold-medal winning performances in the under 17 races just gave them the edge over last year’s Jubilee Trophy runners-up Wandsworth and Barnet, another top-10 borough from last season.

Afterwards, Richmond’s Borough Team Organiser Elaine Cahill said: “It’s absolutely brilliant to retain the overall team title – I was so nervous. This year we selected the team via a Parkrun event where we chose the top runners.   The athletes organise their own training or on their own. Some are natural runners. It’s the start of the 2012 London Youth Games season and it’s a fantastic day. It’s great to be part of it. The children love participating and try to enter as many events as possible.”

Teddington School were represented by Evan James, Jamie Millbank and Sebastian Bray.  All ran very well and helped Team Richmond retain the Cross Country Title.

The prestigious London Under 16s Hockey Championships were held here at Teddington School. Amy Freeman, Molly Dickinson, Cheok Lok and Janneke Vennema-Osborne were selected to represent a strong Richmond School Sport Partnership side. After gaining 7 points in the table, and an excellent 5-0 win in the final game against South Hampstead, the Richmond team progressed through to the next stage of the Championships.

In the next round the Richmond U16s were runners-up in the Surrey and London Finals. They beat Kingston Grammar School 2-0 in the semis, demonstrating excellent team play and then went on to play Alleyn’s in the finals. The game was superb and the girls were an absolute credit but unfortunately we lost 2-0 to two finely struck goals.  This result means that they now qualify for the South Finals!   Congratulations girls!

In other hockey news…

Our U14 girls hockey team (made up of year 7 and 8 girls) got off to an excellent start to the borough league with a fantastic 8-0 win over Waldergrave. The girls then went on to play in what for many of them was their first taste of full pitch hockey in the Surrey and London U14s championship. They played very well against some very strong opposition, many of whom were a year older. Highlight of the day came from a superb strike from Robyn Wheeler.

Circular Race: Students in the talented groups, along with any other students who wanted to challenge themselves, ran around the perimeter of the Rec for 20 minutes. The aim of this race was to complete as many laps as possible, with each lap just over 800 metres.

Paired Relay:  Students in the coloured PE groups competed in the paired relay race.  Taking turns, students completed one lap of the football/rugby pitch.  On the completion of one lap, they tagged their partner who completed the next lap and so on.  The aim of this race was to complete as many laps as possible in 20 minutes.

At the end of each race the number of complete laps was recorded and Mr Salter calculated the results which can be seen below:

All students performed exceptionally well with many outstanding performances and have given Ms McGrandles a tough job of selecting the Cross Country team.
